Debbie
Yoon

Designer / Queen of the Web Frontier

Debbie’s home town of Edison, New Jersey was named for the inventor of the lightbulb — Thomas Edison. So perhaps it’s not surprising that it has produced so many illustrious alumnae like Susan Sarandon, B’stro’s founder — Jill B’ — and of course, Debbie Yoon, one of B’stro’s most talented designers.

Ever the explorer, when Debbie turned 22 she had the bright idea of uprooting herself and moving cross country to become a California girl. It took 5 days, driving 18 hours a day, with a cat who refused to be put in a cage (just like Debbie.)

A thirst for adventure and new experiences has served Debbie well in the brave, new digital world. A classical designer by trade and by training, she soon discovered that she loved the immediacy of the web. Her personal crusade is to combine the intricacy and artistry of print design with the “up-in-a-flash” gratification of the ‘Net.

Debbie’s work at the San Francisco Art Institute and a graphic design degree from the California College of the Arts helped her evolve her visual aesthetic; but her interest in design began with her love of books. She studied them, wrote about them, and finally began to shape them. Book design was her first love, but she has found creative advertising design to be just as exciting and has become addicted to the constant rush of energy.

There’s more to Debbie than designing, coding and debugging. She’s also a well-rounded conceptual contributor who got her first degree in English Literature at Wesleyan University and was a staffer at Mother Jones magazine.
