Out in Schools Fundraising Video
Out in Schools is a community organization striving to help make schools safer for youth. By introducing queer films to local high schools and encouraging dialogue on the dangers of homophobia and bullying, they are giving youth a safe space to discuss, explore and examine these issues. Out in Schools believes that by increasing discourse and understanding, schools will become a safer, more open environment for youth today.Posed with the challenge of helping Out in Schools raise money to keep programs alive. Creative B’stro planned, produced and developed a documentary style video to support the cause and stir others to fundraise, donate and participate.
B’stro not only created the initial film concept and script; but also took charge of casting interviews, art directing and editing.
In order to create an emotional connection and communicate the critical nature of homophobia and bullying, the video focused primarily on the heartfelt thoughts and opinions of queer youth and those affected by the issues.
The video was presented at an Out in Schools fundraising breakfast and its impact made attendees give generously. Out in Schools raised an unprecedented $34,000 in donations—more than double their targeted goal. The video will now be used on an ongoing basis to fundraise and educate people throughout the province about the realities of homophobia and bullying.
