YWCA Website

As one of the largest non-profits in British Columbia, YWCA Vancouver offers their community a lot of assistance—and a lot of organizational layers. Our biggest challenge, then, in designing their official website, was how to accurately represent the non-profit’s diverse bevy of programs and departments in a single website.

To solve this issue, we suggested that YWCA implement a user-based structure. This meant creating user profiles and performing thorough user testing for multiple design iterations. Using the results of this testing, we came up with a user-focused structure that allowed each individual user to intuitively find what they were looking for—whatever that might be.

In addition to a user-focused design, we also created a customized Content Management System (CMS) for YWCA Vancouver. Where an off-the-shelf CMS might have worked for a less expansive organization, the management behind YWCA Vancouver’s site needed much more precise control over the site’s content. Our customized CMS allowed YWCA leadership to posit unique news and events for each department—for example, with our customized CMS, news and events for YWCA’s “Help for Job Seekers” department would only appear on the Jobs section of the site, reducing clutter and complementing the site’s overall user-focused structure.

YWCA loved our approach to the site, and raved over the control we gave them over their website. As for us, we couldn’t be happier to have helped such a worthwhile organization.
